Although it started out a bit rough, I have to admit that this year has been pretty awesome. I didn't even have to use my AK! I had the best holidays I've had in a very very long time. November, the month in which sometimes always bad happens finally had a happy moment-the birth of EM! Unfortunately, the same day Em was born, Javen's grandfather passed away. Together, we've had 3 grandparents die in the month of November. I hope that nothing too tragic happens in 2008 and that things continue to get better. It always makes me a little nervous when I actually start to feel happy because in the past, just when I thought things were looking up, something really bad would happen. I hope everyone has had a lovely Holiday and will have a wonderful new year!

Oh no!! My baby has a trendy name!
What did I do? There is going to be tons of kids in her class with the same name! I didn't realize this name was so popular. We chose it because we were looking through old family pictures and Javen's great great grandmother(who actually died at 108) was name Emma. My great grandmother was also named Emma so we thought it would be a nice family name. I never had the same name as anyone in my whole school. Now she's going to have to use her last initial all the time.

Going far, getting nowhere.
A pretty obscure Tears for Fears single right before they hit it big with "Songs from the Big Chair".

Maybe "The Goonies" really could happen!?
BEIJING - After 800 years at the bottom of the sea, a merchant ship loaded with porcelain and other rare antiques was raised to the surface Friday in a specially built basket, a state news agency reported.

The Nanhai No. 1, which means "South China Sea No. 1," sank off the south China coast with some 60,000 to 80,000 items on board, Xinhua News Agency reported, citing Wu Jiancheng, head of the excavation project.
Archaeologists built a steel basket around the 100-foot vessel, and it took about two hours for a crane to lift the ship and surrounding silt to the surface, Xinhua said. The basket was as large as a basketball court and as tall as a three-story building.
Green-glazed porcelain plates and shadowy blue porcelain items were among rare antiques found during the initial exploration of the ship. Archaeologists have also recovered containers made of gold and silver as well as about 6,000 copper coins.
The ship dates from the early Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). It was discovered in 1987 off the coast near the city of Yangjiang, in Guangdong province, in more than 65 feet of water.
The Nanhai No. 1 was placed on a waiting barge. It will be deposited in a huge glass pool at a museum where the water temperature, pressure and other environmental conditions are the same as where it has lain on the sea bed.
Feng Shaowen, head of the Yangjiang city cultural bureau, said visitors will be able watch the excavation of the ship through windows on the pool.
The recovery of the Nanhai No. 1 was originally scheduled for Saturday, but organizers decided to raise it a day early because of favorable weather.

When I met Radiohead
Remembering the 90's made me remember when I met Radiohead. It was 1998 and they were tagged by douchy music magazine's as "genius" and "ground breaking". I never found that that good but I love the song "Karma Police". Anyway, my uncle used to drive for bands and he got me tickets and back stage passes to see Radiohead at Radio City Music Hall. I went with my roommate and her friend. We drove down. I didn't know it at the time but I had mono really bad and felt really out of it. We had an extra ticket so we sold it to a scalper for $50. They were VIP tickets and we were stupid. I think the scapler got $100 for that ticket. I don't really remember much of the concert. Anyway, we went to the back and stood in a fenced area waiting to go upstairs. We had an extra pass and just gave it to someone on the street(we probably could've sold it to some freak for a lot of money, bu we were dumb). I expected backstage to be really cool and wild. My uncle said that they were really nice and they liked driving in the truck with him. When we got up there it was very awkward. We were young kids among all these old British people. I began talking to someone who seemed very nice. I had no clue who he was but I found out later he was the drummer. When the lead singer came up I asked for his autograph. He was such a little freak. I was not star struck and could care less but he seemed to think he was to important to be around all these people. We left and then got two flat tires in the middle of an idustrial area in Brooklyn. We had to take a taxi to an all night tire store which I think was actually a terrorist club or something. Needless to say, Radiohead were douchbags.
Feeling Nostalgic
It's a Wednesday night and I'm just chazillin with my baby and watching best video's of the 90's on VH1. It's hard to believe that some of these songs are over 10 years old!!
In 1995, Duran Duran came out with a cover album. They did a cover of "911 Is A Joke" by Public Enemy. I actually had this cd and used to listen to it. It wasn't that bad. They did a great version of "Lay Lady Lay" by Bob Dylan.
Third Eye Blind was very mid-late 90s. I hated "Semi-Charmed Life" about "meth" addicts, but I have to admit the rest of that album was pretty good. I remember being a freshman in college and listening to this song a lot. It's actually sort of depressing, that's why I probably liked it..
Marky Mark "Good Vibration". This song brings me back to 1991 when I would have to go to Confirmation class every Wednesday night. I used to car pool with two boys who were a grade under me. I remember the one kid was a power wigger and used to always sing this. He became a herion addict and robbed numerous banks. That just shows you what liking Marky Mark will do to you.
Only Jay-Z could sample Annie's "Hard Knock Life". I HATED THIS, but did enjoy, "The City is Mine" The video even features Micheal Rapaport My friend had to cassette single and it got stuck in the tape player in her car so we listened to it repeatedly. Those were the days...
Soul Asylum was really just another early 90's grunge type band but somehow a lot dorkier than other bands in that category. I liked them though. I even remember i bought a old tape of their first album. They were best known for "Runaway Train", their social commentary on Runaway teens in America. I wonder if that video helped little Timmy return home. I hope so. Oh yeah, this dude used to go out with Winonna Ryder, but really, who didn't go out with Winonna Ryder in the early-mid 90's.
Ugly Kid Joe "I Hate Everything About You". Wow! Now this is a song I can relate to!!!! They also did a cover version of "Cats in the Cradle", a song that always me sad. Javen had the greatest hits of Ugly Kid Joe. I didn't know that they made greatest hits with only one song on it.
Oasis -"Wonderwall" I remember being in Germany when this song came out and being at an ice skating rink and them playing this song every 4th song. In between they played weird german techno like, "Help Me Dr. Dick" and "Hertz on Hertz". Germany was very bizarre. I remember going to a night club that was also an all you can eat buffet.

Killarmy "Wake the FUck UP"
An off shoot of the Wu-Tang Clan. I had this Cd and used to crank this shit. I was a little white girl listening to some obscure hard-core rap. I like the Incredible Hulk Music in the background. I just remember blaring this song out the window in my dorm on "Dolphy Day".

M is one month old today!!!
Happy Birthday M!! I can't believe it's been a month! She gets cuter by the day, even with her baby acne. I love spending everyday with her and I've become really domesticated. I wake up, watch the "Today" show and then usually bake something and clean. Then in the afternoon I usually watch bad court TV and then I make dinner. It's really sort of sad. I really want to go places but I'm so worried about bringing her out. I'm going a little stir crazy because of it. I don't want to leave her to go back to work, but I don't want to be poor and babies are really expensive!
